The Company

The Wiley Brooks Company, Inc. predominant orientation is the sales, leasing and management of commercial real estate. The company office is conveniently located in mid-town Anchorage.

Founder Wiley Brooks received his degree in Business Management from Mississippi State University. After college, he became a career officer in the USAF and advanced to the grade of Lieutenant Colonel before retirement to enter business in 1977. He became a licensed real estate agent specializing in property management in 1978 and established his firm in 1982. Mr. Brooks is a member and past president of the Alaska Chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) and received the Certified Property Manager of the Year Award in 1986.

Mr. Brooks has extensive experience in Property Management, Asset Management and Investment Consulting services. In recent years, family members have joined the firm to maintain a tradition of providing quality services to clients. Daughter Laura Cantrell, CPM®, after gaining 20 years of real estate sales and management experience in Washington State and Alaska, rejoined the family business in 1999. Laura watches over day-to-day management of client assets. Son J. Jay Brooks is a licensed associate broker, provides real estate mortgage banking and investment consulting services.

Mr. Brooks has been a licensed real estate agent specializing in property management since 1978 and has co-owned the Wiley Brooks Company, Inc. since 1982. Mr. Brooks is a member and past president of the Alaska Chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). In 1987, Wiley Brooks received the Certified Property Manager of the Year Award. Mr. Brooks was a 20 year career officer in the USAF advancing to the grade of Lieutenant Colonel before retirement to enter business in 1977. He has a degree in Business Management from Mississippi State University.

Mr. Brooks’s responsibilities are to provide Property and Asset Management consulting and Investment Consulting services to real estate investors, developers, community associations, financial institutions and attorneys.

Laura Brooks Cantrell, ABR, CPM, GRI

Ms. Cantrell rejoined Wiley Brooks Co., Inc. in 1999. She has been licensed in real estate since 1988 and has 25 years experience in real estate related fields and 20 years in the building maintenance and construction field. Her experience includes sales, leasing and property management of REO bank and state owned properties, residential and commercial properties, raw land and development properties.

She currently oversees the leasing, management and day-to-day operations and maintenance of office, retail, warehouse, and office & medical condominium properties for a select group of clients. Her duties also include project management and the oversight of tenant improvements and capital improvements as well as monitoring real estate contracts and leases. She is experienced in the setup and maintenance of various accounting systems, payroll and taxes.

In recognition of Laura's outstanding dedication and commitment to the Property Management profession, Laura was awarded the Certified Property Manager® of the Year Award in 2005 and 2006 by the Institute of Real Estate Management.

Ms. Cantrell is an Accredited Buyers Representative, Graduate of Realtors Institute, and a Certified Property Manager (CPM®). Laura is the 2005-2007 President of the Alaska Chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), and is currently an active member of the Building Owners & Managers Association (BOMA) local chapter, and Anchorage Downtown Partnership Board member.

James Jay Brooks
Associate Broker
Asset Management and Consulting

James Jay Brooks (J. Jay) has lived in Anchorage since 1972 and has been active in the real estate industry since graduating from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1986. Mr. Brooks received a B.A. in Economics and studied in the university’s well known real estate school.

After returning to Alaska, Mr. Brooks worked as a leasing agent and property manager for the Wiley Brooks Company, Inc. Responsibilities included maximizing the income and value of real estate ranging from public and privately owned properties to institutional portfolios. J. Jay Brooks leased and sold hundreds of properties ranging from apartments and condominiums to office, warehouse and investment properties. Mr. Brooks also developed residential properties and initiated mixed use developments.

From 1992 until June of 1994, Mr. Brooks worked with Livingston & Associates, Inc., a specialized commercial brokerage firm where he was involved in leasing and selling office, warehouse and industrial properties. Clients ranged from Fortune 500 companies to local investors and business owners.

Mr. Brooks is currently an Associate Broker at Wiley Brooks Co., Inc. concentrating his energy on providing commercial brokerage services and is the regional manager for the Pacific Northwest office of George Smith Partners, Inc. Since 1999 Mr. Brooks has closed over $350,000,000 of financing in markets across the United States. Mr. Brooks has significant experience structuring complex bridge loans and high leverage transactions. Many of Mr. Brooks’ clients are national investors that require expertise in obtaining financing for unique property types and certainty of execution. Mr. Brooks has a B.S. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and studied in the top rated real estate program. Prior to joining George Smith Partners, Inc. Mr. Brooks was a commercial real estate broker and represented clients from local businesses to international oil companies. Mr. Brooks is a member of the Urban Land Institute, University of Wisconsin Alumni Association, and the Anchorage Board of Equalization and has an Alaska associate broker’s license California Real Estate License.

Anita Rosett
Property Manager

Ms. Rosett joined Wiley Brooks Company in June 2009. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge in the Real Estate Property Management field dating back to 1983. Ms. Rosett's experience includes analyzing the development, preparation and management of fiscal budgets; processing payroll, accounts receivables and payables; preparing monthly financial statements; evaluating job performance and providing directives to resident managers and maintenance personnel; staff training and hiring; and analyzing staff problems and performance. She is proficient in communication, negotiating disputes and problem solving.

Ms. Rosett started her real estate and property management career in 1983 as a resident manager and brings to the company her knowledge of Alaska Real Estate Law in brokerage, sales, refinancing and leasing. In addition, she has years of expertise in building management to include adhering to bid specifications; reviewing bid proposals; along with her extensive knowledge of contracts and suppliers and their services and goods. Ms. Rosett is Results-driven, experienced and reliable individual focused on achieving the highest results.

She also manages the analysis and implementation of major repairs to commercial and residential facilities. Other management responsibilities include approving invoices; supervising all on-site operations; adherence to property budgets; physically inspecting all properties to ensure safety, security, and maintenance of grounds, structures and construction projects; code compliance; maintaining effective marketing and advertising for all properties; managing multiple projects with strict deadlines; and periodic auditing for compliance with all company policies and procedures in an organized manner.

Ms. Rosett is a member and Secretary/Treasurer of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) Alaska Chapter. Ms. Rosett has successfully completed all the Accredited Resident Management (ARM) required courses as well as the Certified Property Management (CPM) courses. She is an active member of the Business Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Anchorage.
